Laboratory Testing & Your Pet

Laboratory testing is one of the key tools in our arsenal when it comes to diagnosing your pet’s ailments. We are able to perform both routine and more specific tests in our in-house laboratory, which can save you and your pet both time and money. When your pet is experiencing a difficult health issue, time is of the essence. We can order routine tests such as complete blood counts (CBC) or blood chemistry panels. These tests can offer a wealth of information as to how your pet’s internal systems are functioning. We can also conduct urinalysis or fecal analysis to better understand other issues your pet may be experiencing.

Radiology & Your Pet

Radiology, or diagnostic imaging, is an essential tool that helps our veterinarians see beyond your pet’s fur at the systems and structures inside. There are two main types of diagnostic imaging: X-rays and ultrasounds. Both of these methods of radiology are non-invasive and pain-free, but work in different ways.

X-rays use a small dose of radiation in order to take pictures of the dense tissues of your pet’s body, such as their skeleton and certain muscles. Because X-rays use radiation, it is unsafe to use on delicate tissues or pregnant pets, as the radiation can damage the developing fetus.

Ultrasounds, on the other hand, are much better suited for use on delicate tissues and pregnant pets. This form of imaging uses high-frequency soundwaves to capture real-time images of your pet’s soft tissues, but cannot penetrate bone or dense tissue.

Whether your veterinarian recommends an X-ray or an ultrasound, our team is fully equipped to handle either with our onsite diagnostic imaging lab. We will work with you to make sure that your pet receives the care they need when they need it most.
